Predicting building age from urban form at large scale

چکیده

To stay within 1.5 °C of global warming, reducing energy-related emissions in the building sector is essential. Rather than generic climate recommendations, this requires tailored, low-carbon urban planning solutions and spatially explicit methods that can inform policy measures at urban, street scale. Here, we propose a scalable method able to predict age information different European countries using only open morphology data. We find cross-validated regression models are sufficiently robust generalize unseen cities with mean absolute error (MAE) between 15.3 years (Netherlands) 19.9 (Spain). Our experiments show large-scale improve generalization for predicting across cities, but not needed infer missing data known cities. Filling gaps possible MAE 9.6 16.7 Overall, our results demonstrate feasibility generating contexts Europe informing mitigation policies such as energy retrofits. For French residential stock, predictions target retrofit efforts increase savings by more 50% compared Finally, highlight challenges posed inconsistencies form differences need be addressed an actual roll-out methods.

Building Large Scale Relation KB from Text

Recently more and more structured data in form of RDF triples have been published and integrated into Linked Open Data (LOD). While the current LOD contains hundreds of data sources with billions of triples, it has a small number of distinct relations compared with the large number of entities. On the other hand, Web pages are growing rapidly, which results in much larger number of textual cont...

Harvesting energy from in-pipe hydro systems at urban and building scale

In addition to photovoltaic and wind systems, nowadays in-pipe water to wire power systems are becoming particularly interesting for the integration of renewable resources at urban and building scale because of the potential to harness clean energy from excess head pressure in urban and domestic water pipelines. Able to operate across a wide range of head and flow conditions, these particular m...

Building and Managing Large Scale

Recent research in peer-to-peer and grid computing has made it possible to build Internet scale services such as content distribution, storage service, name service and publish/subscribe. By utilizing large number of service nodes that collaborate in a decentralized fashion, such services can potentially achieve high scalability, availability, reliability and QoS/performance. Despite such poten...

Building Large Scale Ontology Networks

Adoptable, high performing, large scale ontologies that can be extended to support multi-media play a crucial role in building effective content and knowledge management systems and applications. In the context of developing a Unified Taxonomy and Ontology Network (UTON), we have undertaken the task of developing a technology framework for building large scale ontologies. This paper describes t...
